Keep Moving Forward a Lesson From Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons”

Posted by Shane Clevenger on May 29, 2008

Yesterday Jenn and I and the Boys watched the Movie “Meet the Robinson”
It was the 3D version, and I highly recommend it.
One of the Keywords throughout was “Keeping Moving Forward”
No matter how many times you have failed keep moving forward.

One of the coolest things I got out of the movie, was the he was able to go into the future and see that life that he had created. Once he went back he was so strong in his actions, as he knew that if he kept moving and trying he would have the beautiful life that he saw in the future.

What an awesome experience, and the cool thing is that we can all do this.
We can daily set apart time to visualize our goals, and our vision for the future.
We can meditate and see ourselves walking through our dream home, driving our dream care, having the dream relationship, etc.
We can literally create in our minds whatever life we want for ourselves in the future.
Are You Scared?
Are You Afraid to Fail?
Imagine Yourself in the life You want…..and make it so.
Your fears will never decide your life, if you let them.

Imagine watching a movie where a meteor is going to crash into the earth in 24 hours.
The Whole World is scared to death of the outcome……
STOP THE MOVIE!!!
Fast forward the movie to the last 5 minutes, where you see the hero blowing up the meteor and saving the world.

Now rewind the movie.. The drama of the movie means nothing, because you know the outcome.
The Drama of your life means nothing either if you can clearly see the outcome.

Well, Shane you don’t understand….
I don’t have leads.
I don’t have the money
I don’t have the Time
My Wifes Support, etc etc

Get to the point where you clearly see the life you want in the future, and you will create it.
The Universe Loves Speed to.
In the Book “The Attractor Factor” it is stated that the Clearer the Vision the Quicker you will Create it.
Get Clear..
See the Future Now..
and Create It..
Keep Moving Forward.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. — Walt Disney

Lights Are Off and No One is Home

Posted by Shane Clevenger on May 13, 2008

The other day I was on my way home, and for some reason all the traffic lights were out. It was 5pm, so needless to say it was rush hour, and pure chaos.

I approached a 4 way stop, and found myself involved in a mess… On all 3 sides of me all I could see were blank stares, and darting eyes looking for the right time to make their move.

On one side of me was a good looking older woman, who had her hands on 10 and 2 and she was leaning forward as if by sure will she would get through the intersection.

Directly across from me was a business man talking on his cell phone looking way to stressed out to be on the road.

On the other side was a teenage kid dancing to his radio, not looking like he really cared whether he moved or not… So, I waited… and waited… and waited, for what felt like 30 seconds. After I gave it a little thought I pulled out into the road, and I became the most hated man in the intersection.

The man across from me hung up his cell phone and began to scream. The teenager on one side, honked his horn, turned off his radio, yelled something, and gave me a sign (which I think means I’m #1, but he was using his middle finger?). The older gal to the other side just shook her head, and then leaned back forward.

Did I break any traffic laws or universal laws of courtesy?

No.

Did I give everyone ample time to do what we are all taught in driving school?

Yes.

So how does this story apply to you and your business?

Isn’t it funny when you make a move and break out of the pack, you all of a sudden look like a one-eyed blue haired purple people eater?

When you decide to move out people are going to:

1. Be envious that you actually made your move.

2. Say their too busy to make their move

3. Have it in their mind that they wanna make their move, but don’t take action.

And all three of them will be upset with you, because you ignored the excuses and made your move.

Well I had a dream. I was on my way home to my wife and two boys. I had calls to make, dinner to eat, and business was waiting to get done. I wasn’t about to wait for other people to decide if their dreams were important enough for them to make a move.

We will encounter all these people in our lives, but it is important to remember that “this is your life, and these are your dreams. You and only you can make it happen”

To quote a good friend and business associate Stu Janoff “ I’m willing to do today what others won’t, so I can live tomorrow like others can’t”.

Make your move today!! Don’t wait for others to decide for you.

“It’s one of my new years resolutions”

Posted by Shane Clevenger on May 5, 2008

This is a statement by Randy Pausch in his book “The last lecture”.
If you don’t know about the last lecture, check this movie out.

So why is a small quote about new years resolutions a big deal to me?
Well this man was given 3 months to live, and yet in the first week of January he has a goal to be better within the time he was given.
When I look at my life the fact is there are many, many days in which I become complacent and lose site of the big picture I have for my life and my family.
This quote hit me hard, and really made me crystal clear on the fact that all I have is “NOW”.
The power in all of us is in this very moment.
In Randy Pausch I see a man who is forced to live everyday of his life like it may be his last, but the truth about Randy is is that is how he lived his life before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
What an example for all of us.
I for one am truly changed by this man, and his insight into life and family is something I will never forget.
I urge you all to Read “The last Lecture” by Randy Pausch.
It is written in a conversational format, and a true classic by a truly great man.

I Want Everyone to Work at Home….Hmph!!

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 23, 2008

This is the statement that my 6 year old uttered, as he cried in the back seat of our van as we came home from lunch yesterday. He was upset because he and his little brother wanted to go to the park as we usually do, but today Jenn and I had a few errands we needed to complete before our big move to Arizona. He then started to name all his friends parents, his cousins, his grandma, his grandpa, etc asking if any of them could take them to the park. After each suggestion, Jenn told our poor little crying son that they were at work. Now if you have kids you know that they are the biggest salesmen the world has ever seen. Quinn continued to come up with ideas, and strategies on how someone, anyone other then mommy and daddy could take him to the park, then the statement……..

“I want everyone to work at home”, and he ended it with a huge sigh and Humph!!!!

I told him that I couldn’t agree more with that statement, and that some people just didn’t see the opportunity that they have all around them, and they just don’t have a plan to get them where they want to go, and some just don’t want to live that kind of life. “We just have to find those people that want it, son”

The next statement suprised me coming from a 6 year old boy, but I guess I shouldn’t be too suprised as he is usually around during all of mommy and daddies masterminding discussions.
He said “Dad, why don’t we put up some posters that say EVERYONE WORK FROM HOME, that way everyone could go to the park”
I told him that was a great idea, and assured him we would do just that when we got to our new house.
Not a great moral to this story other then my ongoing lessons I learn everyday from my kids.
They only see options and possibilities and when roadblocks come up they offer solutions to get what they want…..
They don’t give up!!!

P.S We took the kids to the park.

Arizona, Here We Come!!

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 17, 2008

For many years Jenn and I have travelled to a little town in Arizona called Beaver Dam. It is a beautiful city in the desert with over 300 days of sunshine. Every year as we brave the cold winters, and snow of Utah, we say to ourselves “this is the last winter” Well, on our last vacation the end of March, we made a final and decisive decision.

We are moving!!

We found an amazing house, in a brand new community called Beaver Dam Estates. We are moving on our 7th anniversary (april 27th). We have the house packed up, and are excited about our new life in Arizona.

There is one thing that has made it possible for us to make one of our biggest dreams come true…..Network Marketing. It has nothing to do with business, or money, etc but this industry has taught me the Be-Do- Have mentality. On our recent trip we had so many things happen that showed us we could and should move (will share later), but the only thing holding us back was the fear of the unknown, and being out of our comfort zone. Jenn, in fact was the one who restated what we had learned at an industry convention about how important is was for people to make decisions outside of their comfort zone, and that if we didn’t do this now- it may never happen for us. You see we are all today were we are because of the decisions we have made in the past. If we make the same decisions that we have always made, then we will continue to live the same life we always had.

If however we can step out of the box that is our mindset, and start to Be the person we want to be, and make the decisions that person would make, then wow what a difference it will make in all our lives.

I heard it said once from a gentleman I highly respect, that he felt uncomfortable when he wasn’t outside of his comfort zone. Meaning if he ever got to a place were he wasn’t being stretched and moving towards something so big that is scared him he felt uncomfortable. It was in essence outside his comfort zone to be inside his comfort zone. This mentality has made him multiple millions of dollars every year in Network Marketing.

I said all this to say this. We have been talking for many years about the move, but in the back of our minds never really thought was possible for us. It wasn’t until we made the decision to do it, and took action, and steps inside that decision that we made that dream a reality.

I encourage you all to make decisions outside of yourself, and think “what would the person I want to be in 5 years do in this situation?”

BE-Do-Have, and the most important step..Take Action

D.i.s.c.o Your Way to Wealth

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 12, 2008

Now, I know what you may be thinking, is “Dancing with the Stars” looking for mlmer’s??

No, what I’m going to share with you is a daily process that will transform your business into maximum over drive.

The Acronym is D.I.S.C.O, and if you do them everyday you will see success.

Let me explain….

D.-stands for Daily Visualization/Meditation

Everyday, are you taking time out of your day to get in a quiet place, and get clear on your goals, and visualize yourself as already achieving that goal. See yourself walking through your dream home. What color is the carpet, the drapes, how many rooms, the view, where are your kids playing, etc.

Also take time through out the day to read your goals. One a daily basis Several times a day I read my “I have I ams”. This is a list of the things that I’m manifesting into my life. They are in present tense, so my subconscious mind will go to work on creating this into my reality.

My list goes something like this:

I attract positive people to me.
Everyday and in every way I’m getting better and better.
I have an unlimited amount of Big Thinkers who want to join me and my business,
I touch peoples hearts on a daily basis by the words I send out
I deserve everything I send out.
I attract great things into my life.
I make others feel good about themselves by being interested in their lives and happiness.
I great everyday with love in my heart,
I work at home and earn $120,000 a year.

I- Income Producing Activities
This is time you spend on building your business. This is not time shuffling papers, cleaning your desk, etc.
This is time for all out action. I don’t say this to say that everyday you have to work, but it is important that you are consistently moving forward. I also feel like it is important to schedule a day or two a week away from business to stay fresh, and stay in gratitude for your free time (thats what this business is all about).
Here are a few things to track

Golden Time Today: ______(I usually work between 2-6 pm)__________________________

Set a time everyday that your going to work, and schedule it. It may change week to week, but schedule it in.

Leads Called _____ how many new people did you talk to today? If you don’t have fresh, new people being introduced to your business on a weekly basis, your business will dwindle- Be the leader!

Second Call- If you were unable to reach people the day before, try them again. The things that I look for on the initial call (usually when I hear voicemail) is if they sounded professional on their voicemail- did they use a crummy robot voice or leave a nice voicemail in their voice. Listen to their words- do they sound like someone you would want in your business? If so, call them back. If not, leave them a message once and let your autoresponders drip on them.

Prospects on Live Call/presentations _____ how many contacts did you invite to one of your presentation calls, or online videos. Again, always move forward with new life blood, and perspectives.

Follow - up- it’s been said several times the fortune is in the follow up. Get back to the people who you tried to reach, or put on presentations yesterday.

3 - Ways for me. How many contacts did you 3- way to an upline leader after the presentation?

3 – Ways for others. How many people on your team did you assist with 3- ways for their prospects?

Getting Started. Do you consistently have new folks getting started?

Lead Generation: What have you done today to promote your business? Whether is pay per click, ezines, ads, forums, etc. Make sure you are actively promoting your business.

S.- Self-Development

How many Pages in Book did I read?, etc: This is the biggest key to your success. Everyday work on the most important aspect of your business…YOU.

As Jim Rohn says “Work harder on yourself then you do on your job”

Other: Could be positive audios in the Ipod, the secret dvd, etc

Journal (including gratitude & evidence of abundance) Their is evidence all around you that you are receiving blessings from the universe, journal it. Also journal everyday all the things that you are grateful for in your life.

C.- Cultivating an Expectation of Leadership

Do you have an attitude of leadership, and success in your business?

Know that at the end of the day, your business, and your success is 100% dependent on YOU.

It’s not your products, your upline, your downline, but you. You are were you are today, because of the sum total of all your past decisions. The good news is today you can start by making positive, expectant, full on leadership decisions.

Testimonials: Stay plugged into your companies success stories. Stay positive, and read about who is knocking the cover off the ball in our industry and your business. Then share those stories.

0- Orchestrate Masterminding: It is up to ME to get myself to an event, to call my Upline, to coordinate and contribute to training calls, to reach out to another leader in the company etc. I must BE the one who takes initiative to DO the masterminding so I will HAVE the benefit of associating with the people who are experiencing greater results than me, currently.

Training Calls: Jump on your company training calls, so you can learn what the leaders are doing, and stay plugged into the excitement.

Other: Mastermind with other networkers that you respect, and who are getting results.

These are just a few ideas on keeping it simple, and making sure that you are making daily progress to your goals.

To Your Success,

Shane Clevenger

The Power of Goals - Gordon the Tank Engine

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 11, 2008

Lately I have been studying mindset and goals, and wanted to share a Success story in our family.

Our little guy is potty training, and has had a huge goal to get “Gordon the tank engine”. We were having a hard time getting him accustomed to the idea of using the toilet, until one day we went to Barnes and Noble. Was it a book on Potty training you might ask???? No!! We were looking in the Kids section, and up on the top shelf, he eyed a Gordon Engine toy. He has always been a fan of Thomas, but this was a burning desire. For the next hour every word that came out of his mouth was “Gordon”, and it ended in a screaming fit when we tried to leave. As I was doing research on goals. I thought “Hey lets give this a shot”

So I sat Down with him and told him that if he went Potty in the toilet for one week, he could have Gordon. He smiled and said “Gordon”…I said you can have it, but you have to work for it.

The next day my wife made him a chart. On the chart was a train track, with picture of Gordon. Each day that he completed his goal of going Potty in the toilet, he could move Gordon one stop closer to the end of the track. Everyday we would go over the chart and talk about Gordon. We built the dream with him, and showed him pictures, and games of Gordon online.

Well today he finished his week long trek and we are going to buy Gordon tomorrow.! Congratulations !!!

So how does this apply to you and I?????

Well he had a huge dream.. he wanted that train. We set a goal that was a stretch for him to achieve his dream of the toy. We tracked his daily progress and reviewed his dream VS. his actions. It wasn’t until he achieved his goal that he got his dream. You can have it, but you have to work for it.

Set goals..track it daily.. review your goals…make your dream come true!!!

I’m in a Glass Case of Limitation

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 2, 2008

I watched the movie anchorman the other day, and laughed my tail off. No, I didn’t learn any great life lessons, but it is good sometimes to take the time to laugh. In one part of the movie he calls into work upset, over the loss of his dog. The man on the other end asked him “where are you”? Calling from a phone booth, he says “I’m in a glass case of emotion”.

I thought wow!! Aren’t we all?

We are often held back by the limitations we place within our mind. We come into the business realm with lofty dreams, but do we believe we can achieve it?? Well, the one’s who end up successful do. As my mentor always says If you have a million dollar business (idea), and your mindset is set at $50,000 you will take that business or idea and make $50.0000 dollars with it.

I recently spent the afternoon listening to 2 multi millionaires on how they got started. To get their business started the had to throw all their profits back into their business. How do you have big dreams of success when you have creditors calling, or a foreclosure notice on your door?

It is hard to keep a positive mindset, when you look at your bank account and see $3.35 to your name.

But let me ask you one question. If 100s of others have done it why can’t you?

We could make a list one hundred people long of those, who had nothing and created massive success, why can’t you?

The only thing that separates them from us, is they expect it to happen. They wake up every day with an expectancy and a burning desire. They have a “reason” why they are waking up everyday and working towards their dreams.

The first step is the have a reason that you want success, a why so big that you will run to the ends of the earth to get it. The place you are up to this point of your life is all due to the way you have thought up to this point in your life. To get yourself to better more abundance place you need to change the way you think.

So how do you create a bigger mindset, so you can grow to achieve your dreams and goals?

1. You have to talk yourself into it.

I’m a sender of cards and touch people on a daily basis by the words I send out

I deserve everything I send out.

I attract great things into my life.

I make others feel good about themselves by being interested in their lives and happiness.

I great everyday with love in my heart,

I work at home and earn $120,000 a year.

2. Read something positive everyday-Listen to positive audio’s. I read this out of Andy Andrews Book “The Travelers Gift” (a True classic in the Spirit of Og Mandino)

“I will lay my head on my pillow at night happily exhausted, knowing that I have done everything within my power to move the mountains in my path. As I sleep, the same dream that dominates my waking hours will be with me in the dark. yes, I have a dream. It is a great dream, and I will never apologize for it. neither will I ever let it go, for if I did, my life would be finished. My hopes, my passions, my vision for the future are my very existence. A person without a dream never had a dream come true. I’m passionate about my vision for the future. My course has been charted. My destiny is assured.”

How can you not eventually create a positive mindset with this stuff being read into your life on a daily basis?

3. You have to see everything that is possible in your life.

I’m always looking at the Robb Report, or going and looking at the new cars, so I can see all the possibilities that I can achieve in my life. Everyday you have to stretch your level of belief, and know that these thing can happen in your life.

You can’t ask, or attract something into your life if you don’t know it exists.

Draw up your dream house plans. Plan a dream vacation.

On a daily basis sit in a quiet place in your home for 20 minutes, and close your eyes. Walk yourself through how your life would be once you have these things. What is your perfect day? Walk yourself through the thoughts, smells, sights sounds, etc.

4. Focus on want you want … not what you don’t want.

To many times we get caught up in the things that are negative into our lives.

I have too many bills… I wish I could lose weight. I only have $20 bucks.

What your mind hears is:

I’m in debt. I’m fat I’m broke.

Focus on your I have I’m listed on item #1 and these things will go away, but you have to focus on your “do wants” If you focus on what you “don’t want” you will attract more of the negatives into your life. Your life is what you focus on.

5. Have a Big Why! The only difference between a successful person and someone who hasn’t yet achieved their dreams is that everyday the successful person knows what they want, and what they need to achieve it. Things happen to all of us. All of us awake with some kind of “drama”, but a winner will not let “drama” take away from their Daily method of operations. They will still use the product, Make those phone calls, fill their lives with positive, because they know that the other stuff can be fixed. If you let the problems overcome you…you will never pull your self away from them. Why are you doing this business?????? I know that everyday and in every way I’m moving forward to achieve the dreams of my family and I.

So in conclusion. Find your why, talk yourself into success, make your “I have I’m List, and find a huge dream to fill your mind with. We will see you on the stage of success, and never again will you wish you could win….You will have already Won!

Team Free from Quixtar

Posted by Shane Clevenger on April 2, 2008

I have been following this story as I’m a former member of amway/quixtar, and know many people on the team.

I’m glad that my friends are able to move on with their business, and make a mark with Monavie.

here is a link to Orrin Woodwards blog .

Link

On a side note I just want to say that we have in our hands the greatest opportunity on the planet to change our lives forever.

I have been involved in mlm since I was 19 years old, and I literally grew into the man I’m today because of the principles I have been taught here.

It doesn’t matter what company you are with you are there for a reason, and I urge you to please take every opportunity to the fullest.

I saw people who were literally waiting for many months in limbo for this Team/ Quixtar fiasco to end, and while they remained positive, and humble to the process I know it had to be hard.

I commend you for staying positive and fighting the good fight… Free Enterprise.

O.k Off my soapbox.

Business Building Tips I Learned From Parenting

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 27, 2008

We are Adults now!! How did that happen, and how do we make it stop. I was chatting with Jenn (my wife) the other day, and I got to thinking…Wow we are parents! Jenn and I have a blast together, and we live life on our terms. When I think of my dad, and how serious he used to be about providing, and working, and being a father to us kids. It blows my mind that I’m in the same situation as me. But I have learned a ton more from my kids, then I think I will ever have a chance to teach them. Here are a few things that come to mind:

1. Childs determination- Child is not afraid to fail. When they see something they want they beg, fight, run, etc I have learned to do the same thing by developing proper goal setting strategies…daily affirmations, etc

2. You have to get used to getting puked on.- When you are in a position of leadership you have to be able to handle folks coming to you and spewing negative, and throwing up emotionally on you. When you are a parent it’s amazing how you can get used to getting thrown up on. You have to be able to stay calm, and make your baby feel good again. No matter how you feel you have to clean them up, and comfort them, and send them back better then when they come to you.

3. Children need, and want to be recognized for their acts, and accomplishments. When they draw a picture they come to you to show you how well they did. Same as with our team. They want recognition from a job well done. It all goes back to the child within us, we want to make our parents (upline proud).

4. Kids are always smiling and giving encouragement- A mentor of mine coined the phrase “You Deserve what you Send Out” I never gave this much thought until this morning. I never really thought about how my mood, and attitude effected those around me. I thought about my 9 month old, and how this morning as I was trying to change his diaper was moving all around (as babies do). I found myself getting annoyed at the fact that I was in a hurry, and “I” needed to do this, and that. I could feel frustration start to run through my body, and then I looked down!

And what did I see????

My son Kye was giving me the biggest smile I have ever seen. I started to smile, and all the frustration that began within my body began to melt away. Babies are a great example of giving nothing but pure love and joy. My 3 year old is always there to give me a hug when I get home from work, or the clap, and jump around the house when something good happens.

What has happened to this attitude in adults???

We get bogged down with life, and work, and business, and money, and we lose site of our true happiness.

Dale Carnegie had a great story about how a dog…is one the only few animals that didn’t have to work. A chicken has to lay eggs, a cow gives milk, etc.

But a dog just hangs out, and is our constant companion. Dogs don’t yell at you, and find fault in you. They are there for you no matter how the day goes.

Isn’t it true that if you smile at someone they smile? This may not happen all the time, but your percentages are far greater then if you approach them with a frown.

5. Kids haven’t heard the word no a million times.- Sometimes we have folks who join us who have never been in sales, or networking, and have to talk to people, they get bogged down with this word called ‘NO” We have been brainwashed into believing that most wants are not only self serving no-nos, but impossible. You were told no, bad, you don’t want that 16,000 times by age 4 and 80,000 times by age 10. So, you associate wants with bad. Feel good about your wants. Don’t wish for it, yearn for it, long for it, sigh for it, or feel discouraged about it. JUST FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR WANTS.

6. Fighting- “Just focus on what your doing, and don’t worry about what others are doing. Sometimes we have to deal with folks calling us names, putting us down for trying to do better.. Kids are cruel and call other kids names on the play ground. In our business, as we all know from the message boards. Folks are often cruel in trying to get across that their deal is the best, and your just sucks…. We need to have a tough skin, and know where we are going in life to get past all the crap.

7. I had to learn to NOT do too much for my kids and sit back and let them make mistakes, fall and learn from them. Sometimes it’s easier to do it all for them, but then you end up raising cripples, and lazy people. So I had to learn to be there for them but let them take the initiative to learn.

A leader in my church says “If you carry your kids, and never put them down, they will never learn to walk” Same in our business. We have to learn to be there for our team, but also allow them to develop into leaders.

8. Kids do what you do-not what you say!! You have to set the example, and move on. If your stagnant your business will be stagnant.

9. Take time out for yourself…as parents and business leaders we need time alone, or with our spouses away from the kids and the business.

The Trick to Money is Having Some

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 26, 2008

516dv757x1l_bo2204203200_pisitb-dp-500-arrowtopright45-64_ou01_aa240_sh20_.jpgAfter I heard it recommended for the 13th time (lol) I decided to pick up the book “The Trick to Money is Having Some” by Stuart Wilde.  I began to read it, and an hour later put it down in awe…WOW!!!

What an amazing book. Learning to look at Making money as a game, and that money is just energy that flows through all of us is something that truly changed my life. When I found out through personal development that everything in my life was there because of thoughts, or actions I made in the past I truly began to have success.

A few things discussed in this book are:

Learning to be independent and why thats important

Money is energy, and is only a symbol

If you took all the wealth in the world, and equally divided it everyone would be a millionaire. In that same case within 6 months there would again be a low, middle, and upper class in our society. This is mainly because of people being addicted to struggle.

The world is full of abundance. Fish don’t need to struggle to swim, birds fly with ease, their is enough wood in the world to build everyone a house the size of the white house….

So why do we struggle???

Pick up this book, and it will change your life, by changing your thoughts about money, and the ease in which you can create it in your life.

The Universe Loves Faith and Speed

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 21, 2008

This is a Great Quote from the BookCreative Mindby Ernest Holmes [1923]“If you believe absolutely that you can do a certain thing, the way will always be opened for you to do it; if also you believe that time will have to elapse, then you are making that a law, and time will have to elapse. If on the other hand you believe that (the universe) knows just how and never makes mistakes, but lets it be done unto you, then it will be done. All shall be given, simply given, to him who is ready to accept it. Can anything be clearer than this?”

The thought that came up for me here is that I get what I expect. Lets talk about prospecting for a minute.

The question was raised today.

“How many leads does it take to make a sale?” We had a few answers, and others who were afraid to answer, but I ask YOU this question…

“How many leads does it take to make a sale?”

The only right answer is of course. You can call one person back today, and put them on a call, and they can decide to get started and change their life today. Happens all the time. This can only happen though if you are not tied to the notion that you need 20-30 leads a day to find that one needle in the haystack.

If I expect that the next person I talk to will be excited, have desire and is someone who is ready to change their life I will get that person at a higher percentage rate, then If I look at a pile a leads and say to myself…”Oh I will leave 30 messages, talk to 15 and get 5 on a call” Thats why it is funny when you hear people ask, whats your closing ratio???

I have to laugh for two reasons.

#1 because I’m no where near anal enough to sit and figure out how many people I talk to in a week, and out of those people who got started.

#2 I’m not attached to the outcome. You can ask me who I put on a call last night, and I couldn’t tell you without looking in my back office. If they don’t get started I pretty much forget who their are.

In fact I had a guy call me back a week after I left him a message, and I had to ask him his email so I could pull him up. I simply am not attached to who gets tarted. But, to answer your question….. whats my closing ratio??? I close 100% of the people I talk to. Why? Because I forget all about the other people who didn’t get started. So get rid of the notion that it takes a ton of people to make a sale, or 2-5 years to retire, or that you have to get all touchy feely with each prospect and remember everyones name. All you have to do is be authentic, and real with people, and not be attached to the outcome. Thats it…

Do You Understand What You’re Doing To Your Mindset?

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 21, 2008

Lately we have been over run on the Internet by articles, news clips, opinions, facts, hear say, etc about everything and anything that is wrong with our industry.

Some will say this is an important part of our learning curve, because “people need to be informed about the Truth!”

I’m not going to spend a whole lot of personal energy on this statement, as I agree with Michael Losier, a Law of Attraction Trainer and author the book, Law of Attraction, The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t), when he says “you get what you vibrate! In other words, whatever you give your attention, energy and focus to, you’ll get more of it.”

So what is all this really doing to our success in our industry??

I just wanted to share from my all time favorite book The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy pages 118-119.

Please read and tell me your thoughts……..

“Trying to Make Ends Meet and the Real Cause There are many people who claim that they are always trying to make ends meet. They seem to have a great struggle to meet their obligations. Have you listened to their conversation? In many instances their conversation runs along this vein. They are constantly condemning those who have succeeded in life and who have raised their heads above the crowd. Perhaps the are saying, “Oh, that fellow has a racket; he is ruthless: he is a crook.”

This is why they lack. They are constantly condemning the thing they claim to desire and want. The reason they speak critically of their more prosperous associates is because the are envious and covetous of other’s prosperity. The quickest way to cause wealth to take wings and fly away is to criticize and condemn others who have more wealth than you.

A Common Stumbling Block to Wealth There is one emotion that is the cause of lack of wealth in the lives of many. Most people learn this the hard way. It is envy. For example, if you see a competitor depositing large sums of money int he bank and you have only a meager amount to deposit, does it make you envious? The way to overcome this emotion is to say to yourself, “Isn’t it wonderful! I rejoice in that man’s prosperity. I wish for him greater and greater wealth.”

To entertain envious thoughts is devastating, because it places you in a negative position. Therefore, wealth flows away from you instead of to you. If you are ever annoyed or irritated by the prosperity or great wealth of another, claim immediately that you truly wish for him or her greater wealth in every possible way. This will neutralize the negative thoughts in your mind and cause an ever greater measure of wealth to flow to you by the law of you own subconscious mind.

Rubbing Out a Great Mental Block to Wealth If you are worried and critical about someone who you claim is making money dishonestly, stop worrying about him. If your suspicions are correct, you know that such a pers is using the law of mind negatively. In time, the law of mind will take care of him. Be careful not to criticize him for the reasons previously indicated. Remember: The block or obstacle to wealth is in your own mind. You can now destroy that mental block. This you may do by getting on mental good terms with everyone. “

So again I ask…….”What are you giving your attention to?”

Just remember, “you attract to your life whatever you give your attention, energy and focus to.”

Direct Your Energy on what You want.

You can have all the Wealth, Love, Abundance, Joy, Success you want by focusing on that very thing that you want.

By concentrating on “Yellow Journalism”, and other folks lack mentality, all you are doing is pushing all this great stuff away from you. Choose Success, Choose Love, Choose Abundance, and hold a steadfast belief that the universe is conspiring to bring all these things to you.

But again, it is YOUR Choice……..Which do you choose today?????

Networking Online In The Forums-Where & How-By Sue Seward

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 21, 2008

Any business takes time, effort, money, learning and growing into an excellent communicator, and focus–especially with online marketing! Focus is crucial because there are so many distractions. You have to have the ability to say NO to many good opportunities so that you an say YES to only the BEST opportunity!

Here are some valuable tips when communicating with people in online communities:

  • It’s best to use the same username and password for all of your forum registrations. This makes it easier to remember them! You could also make a list of all your forums and memberships and put them in an online file for quick and easy access to all your links.

  • It’s also best to use your real name in your username to brand yourself online!

  • I always use sueseward, and many people know and recognize that name after being online since 1996 and contributing consistently to the forums.

  • Be professional at all times. Do not use the forums to advertise your business. Only place ads in specified areas. Be prepared for spam, which is other people sending you their business info. This is where FOCUS comes in!

  • Forums are for giving and receiving advice, and contributing information and content that people can get some value and benefit from.

  • Always make sure you set up your signature file with your website link and your sig line will show up on all your posts. If someone wants to get in touch with you or learn about your business or products/services, they will visit your link.

  • Try to only spend 30 to 40 minutes a day in forums. Be consistent but be careful of how much time you spend in the forums. Time can pass by very quickly online and before you know it, you’re spending hours in the forums and haven’t done anything to build your business; and the laundry can pile up pretty high too! Your children can go hungry and your dog will explode if you don’t take him out for a walk!

  • Try not to get into arguments or debates about who has the best company, comp plan, etc. This will only waste your time and theirs! Everyone thinks THEIR company and product is the best!

  • Always respect other people and what they are doing, and respect their business.

  • Read over a few forum posts first to get a feel for the members and their personalities and then contribute. Everyone has something to learn and everyone has something to teach! Remember that everyone has something of value to contribute even if you’re new to the forums or the industry!

  • Be polite. Remember, what goes around always comes back around sooner or later. Never burn your bridges or your relationships! Treat people like you would like to be treated! Remember, they have a company and product they love, so respect that!

  • Remember, people are lurking on the forums looking for a company, products, and a sponsor, and when they see people who are professional, polite, giving, and that have a serving attitude, guess who they’re going to contact?

  • Make sure you first introduce yourself in the introduction area. This is actually where people will expect you to share all about yourself, what you do, and what your business/product is. Make sure you’re personable and it doesn’t look like advertising! This is crucial even in this area.

  • People don’t like to be sold, they like to be heard; so listen to what people are saying in the forums and respond to them with something of value!

  • Remember, the most important thing about marketing online is to brand yourself. You do this by being real, personable, and letting people know you and what your gifts and talents are, as well as how you’re willing to contribute and serve others.

Networking in discussion forums is a great place to start the process! When done properly, it’s a great way to make connections, build relationships, and make friends eventually new business partners. We had seven new partners at a recent company event from online! Three were from online forums.

Interview with Bob Proctor

Posted by Shane Clevenger on March 16, 2008

Here is a Great Article from a Legend in Our Industry and Author of “The Greatest Networker” John Fogg with Master Success Coach Bob Proctor.

I hope You enjoy

Shane

Interview with Bob Proctor on Network Marketing
By John Milton Fogg
“I believe that the whole universe operates in an orderly manner, and Network Marketing operates more in harmony with the laws of the universe than any other business I’ve seen.” ~ Bob Proctor

Robert, you have an extensive background in corporate America, in teaching and training those people. What attracted you into Network Marketing?

A doctor I have tremendous respect for got involved with a Network Marketing company. It was seeing his picture in a Network Marketing magazine that brought the industry to my attention and caused me to take a look at it from a totally different perspective.

What was the basis of your respect for him?

I’ve studied the mind for approximately 40 years, and he probably taught me more about the mind than any other individual. He knows more about the mind than anyone I’ve ever met, or even read about. He’s not a money guy, he’s involved in the healing arts, so when I saw his picture attached with this company, I thought “There has to be something here that I don’t understand.” So I decided to look into it.

When I did, my whole perspective of the industry changed. I think I’m like an awful lot of people in that I didn’t understand it but thought I did. If someone had asked me to explain Network Marketing, I would have been at a loss to explain it. And yet, if you had said, “Do you understand it?” I would have said, “Sure” when the truth is, I didn’t.

Did you have a negative impression of it, Bob?

I don’t think I had a negative or positive impression. It was more disinterest than anything. I often say “I was caught in my own trap.” I have taught in numerous programs that anything we don’t understand we have a tendency to criticize and ridicule carelessly.

What did you find when you started looking?

I found that, all things being equal– good company, good product– it’s probably the most moral form of compensation I have ever seen. And I’ve studied a lot of them. I believe that the whole universe operates in an orderly manner, and Network Marketing operates more in harmony with the laws of the universe than any other business I’ve seen. A person truly receives exactly what he’s worth. No nepotism, no favoritism. I find that rather unusual in the business world.

What are some of the laws you’re referring to, and how does Network Marketing honor them?

Well, for example, the law of cause and effect– which is one of the laws in the universe– clearly states that energy returns to its source of origination. Or in more familiar terms, what you sow, you reap. Action and reaction are equal and opposite. This business is so perfectly aligned with that principle. If a person puts the effort out, it does come back. People are recognized for their efforts– recognition is a big part of it, and compensation is a big part of it.

I see that there are two sources of income in life, one psychic, one material. The psychic income is the satisfaction we get from how we spend our days. We should earn enough money to provide the things we want and live the way we choose. Network Marketing, for the most part, offers that person the opportunity for both.

The people I’ve observed who are successful in this industry truly love what they are doing. Once they understand the system, away they go– helping others understand it, too. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people who are not successful, but that’s their own fault. Another unusual characteristic of Network Marketing is the seemingly small distance from the bottom to the top.

Can you say more about that, because a common criticism of this industry, Bob, is that there are just a few people at the top while most people are struggling.

That is something that people say, and yet, if you ask them to explain it, they’re unable to. Again, what we don’t understand we have a tendency to criticize and ridicule. I was probably guilty of that. I got up and said that I didn’t know anyone who was earning any money. Well, I really didn’t know that many people involved in Network Marketing at all. There were passing acquaintances, but I certainly didn’t know what they were earning.

I’ve since found out, of course, that there are a lot of people earning great money in Network Marketing. My wife has been very successful, and she’s having an awful lot of fun at it. I spend almost all of my time working in this industry now because I enjoy working with Network Marketers so much. I still do some work outside, and it’s not that I couldn’t do more, I just don’t really have a desire to.

Bob, besides the moral quality that you’ve already spoken about in the structure of Network Marketing, what other differences do you see between Network Marketing and a conventional business?

The difference is like night and day. It’s paradoxical, really– people who do not understand Network Marketing point at it as a pyramid, when the truth is that they are probably involved in something that truly is a pyramid!

All business is shaped like a pyramid, but the difference is that in Network Marketing, everybody is at the top of their own pyramid. In corporate America, that’s not the way it is. A good example of a pyramid is a Canadian bank. There are only half a dozen banks in Canada, and the people at the top all earn in the millions, while the teller probably earns $20-25,000 a year, with very little hope of getting to $35,000.

A person can sit down and draw her own star, then go and get it in Network Marketing. On top of that, she’ll get help– in Network Marketing, everyone wants to help everyone. That isn’t the case outside this business.

In Network Marketing, a person has the opportunity for expansion and fuller expression. In other words, his life can continually improve. There seems to be no end to it. I’ve only been around the industry for a little over three years, but I’m absolutely fascinated with it. People naturally want to expand and express and grow– the corporate structure impedes that growth, while Network Marketing supports it. In fact, it’s to the advantage of the people above you to help you grow.

Bob, in looking at the uniqueness of this business, what are some of those challenges that Network Marketers face?

I think the biggest challenge a Network Marketer faces is the paradigm shift that they have to make themselves. Second is learning how to present the opportunity to someone in such a way that enables that person to make a paradigm shift, too.

We’re conditioned genetically; we’re conditioned environmentally. Like the old economy — if you look at it as the old economy and the new economy. The old economy deals with competition. I think a good example is if you had a pie, and the pie is cut up, and you get a piece, I get a piece, maybe six other people get a piece. If I want more of that pie, I’ve got to outwit, out-market, or out-sell you, or out-scheme you. For me to have more pie, you’re going to have to have less. We’re dealing with a limited supply.

In Network Marketing, which I believe is the distribution system that is ushering in the new economy, a person is dealing with an infinite supply, which is in line with spiritual laws. There is no limit. So the person says, “If I want more pie, I’ll make a bigger pie, and I’ll make you aware of how I am enjoying more pie, so you can, too.” It is the most phenomenal system, and it just keeps getting better, because you become more and more aware of the truth of it.

What kind of difficulties does that present for somebody who, say, came out of a corporate environment where the rules of the game are different?

I’ll give you a good example for your readers to try. Question to the readers: are you right-handed, or left-handed? Okay, now I’m going to ask you to sign your name. Sign your name on a piece of paper. Now put the pen in your other hand. Don’t just read this — put your pen in your other hand.

You can feel the tension building in your body. Your mind reacts to it. You think “I don’t write with my left hand. This is so uncomfortable. It’s so cumbersome. I’m going to make such a mess. I’m going to make myself look foolish, and what will my neighbor say?” We’re not programmed to write with our other hand.

People are programmed to live a certain way. What we’re saying is change the programming. It’s like learning a new language. It’s almost as if you go home and your family doesn’t speak English any longer, but French or Spanish. Eventually, you would learn what they are saying, but it would be extremely difficult and very stressful at the beginning.

Can you speak about the things that need to be reprogrammed, specifically, Bob, or give us some examples of things?

We have to begin by understanding ourselves, and improving our self-esteem. We’ve been raised to be dependent on the corporation, the boss, the company. We’re programmed to believe that if you go to school, get a good education and a job in a big company, that you’re safe. Of course everyone knows that that’s not true. People have been being laid off, downsized, reengineered, or fired by the hundreds of thousands– many are walking the street wondering what’s happened.

We’re living in a new economy. The world has shifted– I believe it’s aligning itself more with the universal laws. See, there’s a bigger gap today between the haves and the have-nots than there ever has been before, and it’s getting wider. In a recent article in the Toronto Daily Star, they pointed out that the top ten percent of income earners are earning 314 times what the bottom ten percent are earning. The people on the bottom haven’t even a hope of how to get to the top, and the old system isn’t going to help them.

Network Marketing clearly explains how you get to the top. The intellect can understand that– “I know I can get to the top. Now I’ve got to change that emotional, conditioned mind of mine.” That’s harder, but people care and want to help you make the transition. There are some absolutely brilliant people who intellectually understand it, and yet don’t make it. They don’t make it because they never get that paradigm changed. I think there has to be more education in that area. Network Marketing is still new enough that it has not come together for the development of people yet– and it may not for a few more years. It’s in an evolutionary state. There has to be more focus on helping the individual change her subjective conditioning. People have a difficult time grasping it, so they struggle.

You see, wealthy people have always had multiple sources of income. I believe that wealth is a very real part of life– it has to be addressed and understood. A person cannot live a full life if he doesn’t have any money, because we use money for things, and we need things for the development of our potential. I have been teaching people that they must have multiple sources of income if they are going to accumulate any wealth– not just one source. It won’t work.

The beautiful part about Network Marketing is you set up multiple sources of income with each person you bring in. So in a relatively short period of time, I could have two or three thousand sources of income. Makes a difference in a person’s life.

Which speaks to the business of leverage.

Absolutely. There are three income earning strategies: M1, M2, and M3.

M1 is trading our time for money. Approximately 95 to 96 percent of the population does that. It has an inherent problem called saturation.

What do you mean the inherent problem is “saturation”?

You run out of time. You only have so much time, and if you’re trading your time for money, you obviously have a ceiling on what you can earn. Doctors are realizing that today. The doctor has to spend more time to earn less money. So does a laborer. So does a lawyer– chargeable hours are the most important words in a lawyer’s vocabulary. That’s the M1 strategy that school teaches us and that we’ve observed our parents’ involvement with, for the most part.

If a person becomes wealthy on the M1 strategy, it’s at the expense of a life. They’ve compromised on the car they drive, the home that they live in, the vacations they take, the school they give their kids, the clothes they wear, because they need the money to live.

M2 is an excellent strategy– investing money to earn money. Those who understand it know that leverage is a great way to work the M2 strategy. There’re only three people out of 100, though, who understand, and some of those aren’t very good at it.

Now, M3 is, without question, the strategy that wealthy people have always used. It’s a strategy of leverage. Approximately one percent of the population uses this strategy, but they earn around 96 percent of all the money that is earned. M3 is multiplying your time through the efforts of others, by setting up multiple sources of income. It’s a phenomenal strategy, and Network Marketing is tuned into it.

Earning money has absolutely nothing to do with work. This is the real paradox.

Say more about that, please.

Napoleon Hill, who probably taught us as much about earning money and wealthy people as anyone, said, “If you are one of those people who believes that hard work and honesty alone will bring riches, perish the thought, because it’s not true. Riches come, if they come at all, in response to definite demands, based upon the application of definite principles, and not by chance or luck.”

Now, let’s take what he’s saying and relate it to Network Marketing– “Riches come, if they come at all, in response to definite demands based upon the application of definite principles, and not by chance or luck.” Is there a demand for someone who can show that 96 percent, the people who are feverishly involved in a losing proposition in the M1 income earning strategy, how to move to M3?

Is there a demand for someone to show an individual how to close the gap between the haves and the have-nots?

I think there’s a screaming demand for it, and it’s something that Network Marketing does. We show them how to close the gap. We show them how to spend their days doing the things that they really love doing, and at the same time, earn the amount of money they need to live the way they choose to live.

I don’t think we’re made for work, I believe that work is made for us. I work every day, but I never look at it as work, because I absolutely love what I’m doing. I find it amusing that I get paid so well at times. I would do it for nothing, because I absolutely love it. Love is harmony– it’s when your conscious mind, your sub-conscious, and your body are all in sync, and you truly love what you’re doing.

Are you willing to talk to me about the role of love in Network Marketing?

Sure — that’s a subject that people should spend a little more time with. I see love as resonance. It’s harmony. People who are in love with helping people are huge winners. You see that proven in Network Marketing all the time– the big winners in Network Marketing love watching a person wake up. They love watching them win.

I watched a couple being recognized recently– they stood before the audience and said that they had been married for 13 years, and got a divorce. They stayed in touch because of the kids. One of them got involved in a Network Marketing company and got the other one involved, too. It ended up bringing them back together– after three and a half years apart. They’re happily married again now. Those people love what they’re doing, they love each other, and they love helping other people. And who do you think likely received the greatest reward, the most satisfaction? The person who sponsored them. That’s the biggest reward for people– helping others win.
